Take the New Year (or January) to Reevaluate Your Health!

Life Lines Newsletter for Employees

As we approach the end of January, the first month of the New Year!   This is a good time to take the time to sit down for a couple minutes to write a list of resolutions for the new year. Right now, many Canadians are trying to decide on which goals they want to work towards in 2019 and which goals they’re going to put off until next year. If you’ve been struggling to come up with ideas, here are few from our team!

Work with a Dietician!

There are billions of people in the world, and we each have a unique body with unique needs. While calorie counting and reducing fatty-foods works for one person, high-fat-low-carb is the ideal diet for someone else. That’s why we recommend working with a dietician. They’ll be able to help you create a plan that works for you and your body. These educators will also be able to provide you with valuable information on choosing snacks and your favourite foods. How much sugar is acceptable in breakfast cereal? How much fiber should you look for in pasta? Does low carb mean no fruit? Getting the right facts about your diet is easier when you work with an expert.

Getting Movin’ They say living a sedentary lifestyle (that includes you at the standing desk!) is the new smoking. More and more Canadians have jobs that involve sitting on our rumps for 8 hours a day, and that’s not good news. Try to set a timer that gets you up on your feet every 30-60 minutes. That will help to keep blood flowing and your mind focused. If you can manage that and a 30 minute brisk walk every day, you’ll be well on your way to better health!

30 Day Challenges!

If you aren’t sure which changes you want to make to your life — or better yet, you have too many goals, we suggest doing 30 day challenges. For example, try to go an entire month with no processed foods or added sugar. The next month see if you can build up to doing 30 pushups in a minute or slowly work towards touching your toes by stretching for 30 seconds every day. Regardless of which challenge you choose, we’re sure you’ll enjoy pushing your body to achieve your goals!

Here at Health Risk, feeling great is always our number one goal, so if becoming a healthier you and feeling better are your 2019 resolutions, we’re here to help!
